White Stripes – We’re Going To Be Friends
http://www.lyrics007.com/The%20White%20Stripes%20Lyrics/We're%20Going%20To%20Be%20Friends%20Lyrics.html

I’ve got my brand new shoes, and I’m ready to go to school. I met a girl named suzy lee and I asked her to walk with me, we walked through the park all around and had fun with all the things we found, I can tell that we are gonna’ be friends. We got to school by ourselves, we were dirty from our adventure in the park, but now its time to clean up and learn. We learn everything together, letters, numbers, spelling, nouns, books, and show and tell. We don’t notice time pass, we even sit together in every class, as I tell her I can tell that we are gonna’ be friends. Tonight I’ll dream everything in my head about the things we learned and the things we did and that we’ll walk together again because I can tell that we are gonna’ be friends.

I like this song because it has a great message and remiends me of times when i was in 5th grade. I also particularly like it because White Stripes is a good band who has good style, and the tune is very catchy.

This song connects to my life because i have gone through the same thoughts when i was littler in school and had a friend to hang out with in all my classes. It also connects with my life because i have known this song ever since i can remember and it has been one of my favorites by White Stripes because it makes me feel good when i listen to it.

Huck’s Moral Dilemma’s
A moral dilemma that Huck faces is taking Jim, a runaway slave with him along his journey. He meets Jim on the island that he comes upon and they get to know each and how they both escaped. Jim tells Huck “Well, I b’lieve you, Huck. I-I run off.” They become friends after a somewhat short time to get to know each other and quickly decide to go together.

Huck made the decision to go along with him quickly with little thought, and this may come back to hurt him in the end. Huck knows that this is not legally the right thing to do and he may have been hesitant, and later in the book he has thoughts like “What has poor Miss Watson ever done to deserve this”. He feels bad about helping Jim escape because he has to lie to many people along his journey in order to cover up the fact that he is with a run away slave. All the lying and covering himself up catches up to him mentally and he feels bad about his decision sometimes.

Huck did the right thing in taking Jim along with him. Sure, it is against the law, but the law is not always right. He knows that he can be caught and he knows the consequences, but that doesn’t over weigh helping out a friend in the eyes of Huck. Besides, Jim would have a much better chance is he goes with Huck because there is a search party for Jim and Huck and they most certainly would have been caught if they didn’t run away together. Huck comes back as quick as he can and tells Jim “Git up and hump yourself, Jim! There ain’t a minute to lose. They’re after us!”

Jim is always giving Huck insightful advice throughout their adventure, although Huck does not always take the advice the right way and goes off to do his own thing. He realizes that Jim is pretty smart for who he is, and that it was a good thing that he brought him along. For example, Jim decides to stay back while Huck goes aboard the wrecked steam boat that leads them into a tight situation that they both narrowly escape. Jim says “I doan’ want to go fool’n ‘long er no wrack. Wes doin’ blame’ well, en we better let blame’ well alone, as de good book says. Like as not dey’s a watchman on dat wrack” Jim also does little things to help them along the way such as finding the raft and repairing it so they are able to move on from the Grangerford’s house.

All in all, I believe that, Huck definitively made the right decision to take Jim with him, because he helps out a great amount more than he hurts them during their journey.

Huck Finn Reader Response #3

What impresses Huck about the Grangerford’s is some of the commodities in the house such as the real door knob instead of an iron latch, the big fire place with bricks that were kept clean, the neatly aligned books, and the pictures on the walls. This means that Huck’s view of success and happiness is having possessions that make you feel at home.

The books are so special because they’re mostly poetry and some of them are educational books. He is so interested in them because he most likely hasn’t done a lot of reading in the past and the books interest him because he is able to learn about someone else’s life and how they live. By this, we can tell that Huck like’s being educated, and Mark Twain thinks of education not as being taught, but being read in a book, not necessarily a text book.

What’s unique about all of the drawings and poems and the scrapbook is that they all have a certain meaning and they all seem to be about death. The girl is obsessed with death and writing and drawing about it. The significance of the girl on the edge of the bridge with three sets of arms is it represents someone that is about to commit suicide and, she was never able to finish it as she died. I think Mark Twain describes this picture so specifically because it deals with death and that’s what happened to the girl that was drawing the picture and it has a significant meaning to everyone that lives at the Grangergord’s house. This says that Mark Twain this as death as art and a deep mystery. I think that Mark Twain thinks of suicide as a sad decision of mixed up feelings. I think that Mark Twain thinks of art as a way to express any feeling that you have. Huck is so touched by this girl’s life and art because the art is mysterious in a way and he will never be able to actually decipher the real meaning of all her art and that’s why it’s so intriguing for Huck.
